The Only Road  Remakes 2

The Only Road to Real

Hi everyone...this is just a little page about the latest CD.

I was actually amazed that I came up with 12 new songs for this CD. I actually left one song off for future use. I think some of the songs are my best so far, and at some point I really loved each song. That is the way it works out because it enables me to give each song the attention that it needs to be developed in whatever way.

First of all thanks to Stephanie Kaestner for the use of her sweet vocal harmonies in To Live and to Tell and No One will be Singing but you.

I didn’t use much help in this CD because I had a lot of alone time and in the end I just wanted to finish.

Toe Up

A slang for tore up’ this I learned at the MLK location. This song, an instrumental, I don’t actually recall how it came to me. I was in open G and just goofin’ around. Took a little time to develop but it’s very fun to play. Just a simple little tune.

The Only Road to Real  Words to Song

This was a “dream” song, came to me in a dream. Sheryl Crow was singing the line “we’ll be touring to Christmas” over and over, so I woke up with only that one line. So it may not make sense to you in the song but you have to think about the entire song and what it is really saying.

To Live and to Tell  Words to Song

Well I was playing and strumming slowly and this song came to me. 5mins. long is quite long for me. I really like the acoustic sound of this one. Was kind of inspired by a music video I saw at the time, not the song but the way it made me feel.

Frantic and Quite Romantic  Words to Song

I was playing in the garage practicing for a get together at Kim Gallagher’s house and this song came out in less than 10 mins. This song is about my daughter Taylor, hope she knows how much I love her...

No Right to Be  Words to Song

A country feel written in January of 2005’ don’t really remember too much but I liked the county feel and the transition to the D7th chord. This really is just a guitar and a bass guitar part. I doubled up on the guitar, for a fuller feel.

I Won’t Live with Your Cheating No More  Words to Song

Truly a country feel. This was a Dream song, woke up and had to get it down fast. Only had part of it but it worked out fine. Obviously not about my current situation but most country songs involve cheatin’ or lost love or something.

The Other Guy  Words to Song

if you ever notice an influence of Jim Croce this is it. A story about someone who’s friend is cheating on his girlfriend and this friend is cheating with the same friends girlfriend while he is cheating on her. Not true to life for me.. but I am sure it happens. I love Jim Croce’s story telling. Kind of a country/blues feeling.

No One will be Singing but You  Words to Song

Started out as a blues song, then it grew into a faster version. Story about a lady who wouldn’t fess up to what she had done, whatever that was. She will take her story to the grave! Stephanie adds a lot to this song.

I Know what’s Wrong with You  Words to Song

this is not a nice song but it’s fun. This is for all of those people who refuse to work for a living but will be right in your face for a hand out, whether they are at a freeway exit, or at my store stealing. I had a fun time with the 3 guitar parts.

Take a Chance  Words to Song

Kind of has an old feeling... was thinking a lot about Sam Cooke right about the time I wrote this song although it sounds nothing like a Sam Cooke song. Kind of a song of that period though.

You Must be Out of Your Mind  Words to Song

Kind of a Rockabilly tune although I don’t think I quite got there with it. I was tinkering in the studio one day, had to close the door cause this song came out really fast.

My Dear Friend  Words to Song

This song was written for Stephanie as an early Birthday present. I couldn’t hold out for her birthday so I gave this one to her early. I think the song speaks for itself.
